How to Wake Up

Can’t wake up? Have you heard about “Clocky” the alarm clock? It’s an alarm clock that likes to play hide and seek early in the morning. You see… Clocky’s goal is wake you up – no matter what it takes. If you press snooze, there’s a steep price to pay…

Clocky jumps from the night stand and beeps around the room until you swing out of the bed.

But that’s not what we are here to talk about. We need to discuss the problem of not being able to wake up in the morning no matter what our alarm says. There are two types of people: ones who have a sixth sense and their circadian rhythm allows them to wake up in the morning on time (not me). And there are those who’s alarms on their phone look like: 07:00 AM, 07:05 AM, 07:10 AM and so on.

So, which one are you?

Probably in the latter category!

The following are a few tips to help your rise early in the morning:

Don’t Keep Your Alarm on Your Nightstand

What we mean is: keep it across from your bed on the dresser. If the alarm clock is on your night stand, you will simply press the snooze button and go back to sleep. Using our way, when the alarm does beep, you will have no choice than to wake up and turn off the alarm. By then, the thought is you will be bright eyed and bushy tailed!

Let the Light In

Here’s how to wake up fast: once you have turned off the alarm, open the curtains. The darker the room, the more you will feel like sleeping. So, let the light in and stand in front of the window for a couple of minutes to recharge your body.

Plan Your Morning the Night Before

If you have something to look forward to in the morning, you will be eager to wake up on time. It can be anything such as treating yourself to a hearty breakfast, a walk in the park with your dog, etc.

Get Your Morning Fuel

Caffeine is the key to boosting your mood; it helps you focus and raises your brain and body’s energy level. If caffeine is not your first choice then, go with some black tea and Stevia, as it has a few healthy components.

For breakfast, the sure way to wake up in the morning is to have something light such as scrambled eggs with whole-grain toast, or a cup of yoghurt, fruit, and granola. A healthy breakfast allows you to maintain your focus and may even fix your circadian rhythm.

Skip the “Nightcap”

Are you a night drinker? The occasional glass of fine wine 5 hours before bed time is all well and good but when you drink it right before going to bed, you will find yourself wide awake. So, make sure you are not indulging in a “nightcap”, even if you are going out with friends. Do you really want to miss the important meeting in the morning? We didn’t think so.

One of our favorite books is called, The Morning Miracle, by Hal Elrod.  He writes about his struggle with not getting up in the morning, and how creating a morning routine has completely changed his life.  And it’s also changed the lives of thousands of readers. Give it a shot – reading it won’t hurt. We promise!

One more thing – before going to bed, leave all the worries outside the bedroom. You won’t accomplish anything by think about them over and over again. So relax, take a few deep breaths and sleep.
