When you lay down to sleep at night, you need three things to sleep comfortably: a soft pair of pajamas, a warm blanket, and the perfect pillow. The perfect pillow requires a certain level of firmness and at the same time it requires a certain level of softness, If you lay down and your pillow is too firm, you will find yourself fluffing it several times a night in an attempt to get it to soften up. If it is too soft, you will find your neck has no support and then you might as well just be laying your head directly on the mattress.

The first step will be to decide what quality of pillow you would like to have. They sell cheap ones at Walmart for a little over two dollars but their quality is average at best. If you want a pillow of higher quality, you will have to spend a bit more money. You will also have to decide on what size pillow it is you prefer. They sell large body pillows that you can lay your entire self on comfortably. They also sell your standard medium and small pillows. It all depends on your preference. Know what brand it is you want and the price you want to pay before you step into the store.

Whether you sleep on your stomach or your back will determine what kind of pillow you choose. If you sleep on your back, you would probably prefer a medium firmness that will support you as you sleep. If you sleep on your stomach, consider a thinner pillow. Your face will likely be mushed up against the pillow for most of the night and you won’t want a pillow that is too thick or too rough on your face.

There are memory foam pillows that conform directly to your head and they are firm so you don’t have to fluff them at all. They are made from the same type of foam that the memory foam mattress is designed from. They are one of the more expensive pillows on the market but they boast a higher quality content and you will sleep soundly at night. With standard pillows, you can choose the type of filling you want it to have as well. The fillings can range from feathers to polyester filling. Feathers are warm but they can get more annoying the more you lay on your pillow. Eventually, they will start poking you in the neck and face.

Finding the perfect pillow is not an easy feat. You will have to do your research and go by “trial and error” to find out what it is you prefer. Buy a pillow and if it is not what you like, give it to someone else and buy another one. Life is too short to sleep on anything less than the pillow that gives you the best sleep at night. When you do finally find the right pillow, you won’t want to sleep on anything else.
